Coaching Through Menopause
Menopause can change how women experience training, recovery, sleep, body composition, and physical performance, but it does not eliminate their capacity to adapt and become stronger. This article examines the physiological and behavioural factors that influence resistance-training participation during the menopausal transition and explains why effective coaching must extend beyond exercise prescription alone. Through the Menopause Coaching Continuum—Understand, Build, Redefine, Support, and Sustain—it provides strength and conditioning professionals with a practical framework for developing competence, recognizing meaningful progress, supporting recovery, and maintaining long-term adherence. Ultimately, the article positions resistance training as an essential strategy for preserving muscle, bone health, physical function, and independence throughout midlife and healthy aging.
